My wife and I are returning to Belize next month. We are renting a car and driving to SI for a short stay. What are some fun things to do during our stay? We enjoy a good meal and a few drinks at night, younger couple ,no kids. We won't be there on a Saturday, but is the market still open or some what active? Any good shops in town? Is Guatemala safe to drive into and visit? Mayan sites, caves, Mtn Pine Ridge with waterfalls, river and horse trips and lots more.
Yes, market is open daily, including Sunday. Only one rental agency allows their vehicles to cross the border, but insurance is not available, so perhaps, if you want to visit Tikal , book with a tour op or thru your hotel.
Here is quick comprehensive list of things to do in San Ignacio. Stayed at Mahogony Hall on the Mopan River, this was a must and we plan to go again. Went to 2 or 3 ruins all within 10 minutes and hiked up and around them.
Went to the market on Wednesday, kayaked down the Mopan river super fun but we brought our own kayak just fyi. We also rented a car but parked it on the Belize side and walked into Guatamala, what a mistake, it was disgusting. If you want to buy a Hanna Montana blanket or find a prostitute go for it. Have fun! Caracol combined with the pools and cave is a nice day trip. On the way back stop at Blancaneaux Lodge for refreshments.
