What in impressive structure in the middle of the towm. Really like it. I pull over to take some Cool place that u will see by just walking around the city or from the castle It is unbelivable because so many years ago to make such a construction is not only difficult.
Great and huge. This huge aqueduct dominates the center of Kavala. Built in by Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent, it served the city as its water source. It reaches up to 25 meters high, m long and contains 60 arches. It is an important and unusual monument in Kavala, northern Greece. The story behind the aquaduct is interesting and of historical value but unfortunately there are no signs or printed material On site to explain what you are seeing.
It is a beautiful structure and a nice place to take pictures. But what else Locals call it The Arches. Prostitutes used to be here at night but not anymore! You can drive through under it. Hard to miss this very tall Roman aqueduct in the port area of this small quaint town of Kavala.
Built to bring water to the seaside town, the structure still stands in all its glory providing much need shade in the summer heat. I've visited many aquaducts worldwide, specially in Europe, and this one in Kavala is one of the best. It is very well preserved, long and monumental.
